Stop in at Heart to Hearth Cookery at the Fairmount Water Works for a demonstration on fishnet-weaving and catching shad in traditional Native American culture. \nCatch a cooking demonstration\, or make a colorful fish rubbing.

DESCRIPTION:In celebration of Shad Weekend\, families can enjoy a special free tour of the Fairmount Dam Fishway to learn more about the history\, science\, and engineering behind this unique structure. This program is intended for visitors over the age of nine. \nWe’ll meet at the pavilion deck of the Fairmount Water Works. \nThe tour is approximately 1.5 miles\, flat and mostly paved\, but please wear appropriate shoes. The tour will happen rain or shine\, but is subject to cancellation in case of severe weather. \nClick here to register.

DESCRIPTION:When you turn on your tap clean\, healthy drinking water comes out.  Learn how the water from our rivers get cleaned and delivered to our homes\, schools and businesses. We will describe the drinking water treatment process and demonstrate the types of tests that Water Department scientists perform to insure the water is safe.  You will also have an opportunity to clean up your own “dirty” water sample using filtration. \n(Sessions run every 30 minutes.)
