SUMMARY:Setting the Thanksgiving Water Table
DESCRIPTION:Water is part of everything we eat\, drink\, and use. Your traditional Thanksgiving recipes\, like one for pumpkin pie\, calls for little to no cups of water\, but from the time the pumpkin starts growing in the pumpkin patch to the moment it reaches your dinner table the pie you consumed uses almost  234 gallons of water to make. If a pie uses that much water\, to make\, then how much water does it take to create the feast that we indulge in on Thanksgiving Day? \nJoin us at the Fairmount Water Works for our Thanksgiving holiday pop-up activity. All visitors are invited to discover the incredible amounts of water that it takes for our holiday meal staples to reach the Thanksgiving table. Visitors will have the opportunity to create a plate with their own holiday meal favorites and calculate the “water footprint” of their individual feast.

SUMMARY:Science Saturday: "The Schuylkill River & You!"
DESCRIPTION:Discover the many ways we are connected to the Schuylkill River\, and how we can protect these waters from the harmful effects of water pollution. \nRivers provide drinking water and a habitat for wildlife. Join us at the river’s edge as we explore our past and present relationship with the Schuylkill River in particular and our environmental impact. Activities include: \n\n“Fishing Around” – Survey the number of fish and species in your “river” to help determine how polluted it is.\n“Where Does the Water Go?” – Follow the journey of water from the river\, to our treatment plants\, and to your home!\n“Your Impact on the Schuylkill” – Learn how to reduce your carbon footprint by reducing the amount of trash you produce. Make the pledge to protect our river!
